Due to multiple extenuating circumstances beyond the Newton County Chamber of Commerce’s control, the Buffalo River Elk Festival scheduled for June 24-25, 2016 has been postponed until June 23-24, 2017.

“We are very sad to announce that the Buffalo River Elk Festival planned for June has been postponed to 2017,” said Nancy Atkinson, President of the Newton County Chamber of Commerce. “Please know, however, that we are already planning the 2017 festival – our 20th Anniversary – and hope for it to be the best one yet.  We do encourage everyone to visit us in Buffalo National River Country this summer and enjoy the many great things to see and do in the area, to include enjoying the Buffalo National River and viewing our Arkansas elk herds – the two local treasures that we celebrate at the Buffalo River Elk Festival.”

The Buffalo River Elk Festival, first held in 1998, is an award-winning festival and one of the premier craft fairs and outdoor sporting events in Arkansas.  The Festival celebrates the successful reintroduction of elk to Newton County, the official “Elk Capital of Arkansas.”
