Buffalo River Elk Festival

"Make Tracks to the 17th Annual

Buffalo River Elk Festival!"

Hear the “Call of the Wild” at this year’s Buffalo River Elk  Festival to be held on June 27 & 28, 2014 in Jasper. This award-winning festival is one of Arkansas’ top craft fairs and outdoor sporting events and celebrates the reintroduction of elk to Newton County, the Elk Capital of Arkansas.

The festival features some of the Ozark’s best creative talent and includes arts and crafts on the square with unique, handmade items. Music lovers will enjoy the live music and fun on the

festival stage, showcasing some great local talent.  This years entertainment includes a Talent Show, Karaoke & special performances by Donald Payne, The See,  Night Hawk, Doug Scallion, 65 Reissue, Doc Lee & Old Country, The Little Buffalo River Band and Dirt Road Dogs.  Both days include talent shows and both evenings feature street dancing until 11 p.m., reminiscent of an old fashioned block party.  And, don’t miss the special fireworks display on Saturday night!

“Foodies” will love the “Premier Dutch Oven Cook-off of Arkansas” as contestants set up camp, dress in old west style,  and compete for prizes cooking tasty dishes in Dutch ovens over hot coals.  After the 2p.m. judging, there will be samples of  food available so you can enjoy a taste of the delicious “vittles” they’ve prepared. Also on Saturday there will be a  Pie Competition & Auction held at the Buffalo River Theater on the Square.

Kids love the Elk Festival - especially the “Kid’s Zone” and the Fishing Derby for kids that are 12 & under.  The entire festival is a wonderful experience for “kids” of all ages!

For those that hunt, or just want more information on our magnificent elk - AGFC will hold two educational seminars.  Also, on Saturday afternoon a festival favorite is the Arkansas State Championship Elk Calling Contest.

Entries for the 25 regular Elk Hunting permits will be drawn  every hour on the hour from noon til 4 p.m. on Saturday.  If  you are hoping to win the special permit for Onsite Application & Permit Draw, this year there will be THREE!!  Two Antlerless and One Either Sex!!!  Applications will be accepted from 1-5 p.m. on June 27th and from 9 a.m.. – 4 p.m., on June 28th at the Senior Center.  The applicants must be present at the festival at 5p.m., Saturday, June 28th in order to win one of these permits.

So “make tracks” and join us at the 17th Annual Buffalo River Elk Festival.   It’s lots of fun, you’ll be glad you came!!
