Hear the “Call of the Wild” at this year’s Buffalo River
Elk Festival to be held on June 26 & 27, 2015 in
Jasper. This award-winning festival is one of Arkansas’ top
craft fairs and outdoor sporting events and celebrates the
reintroduction of elk to Newton County, the Elk Capital of
The festival features some of the Ozark’s best creative
talent and includes arts and crafts on the square with
unique, handmade items. Music lovers will enjoy the live
music and fun on the festival stage, showcasing some great
local talent. This year's entertainment includes a Talent
Show, & special performances by Night Hawk, Doug Scallion, plus many
more to be announced. Both days include talent shows and
both evenings feature street dancing until 11 p.m.,
reminiscent of an old fashioned block party.
“Foodies” will love the “Premier Dutch Oven Cook-off
of Arkansas” as contestants set up camp, dress in old west
style, and compete for prizes cooking tasty dishes in Dutch
ovens over hot coals. After the 1p.m. judging, there will
be samples of food available so you can enjoy a taste of
the delicious “vittles” they’ve prepared. Also on Saturday
there will be a Pie Competition & Auction held at the
Legion Hut just off the Square.
Kids love the Elk Festival - especially the “Kid’s Zone” and
the Fishing Derby for kids that are 12 & under. The
Grand Prize for the Derby is a Kayak sponsored by the Ozark
Café and you must be present on the square at the time of
the drawing to win!!

For those that hunt, or just want more information on
our magnificent elk - AGFC will hold two educational
seminars. Also, on Saturday afternoon a festival favorite
is the Arkansas State Championship Elk Calling Contest.
Entries for the 23 regular Elk Hunting permits will be
drawn every hour on the hour from noon til 4 p.m. on
Saturday. If you are hoping to win the special permit for
Onsite Application & Permit Draw, this year there will be
THREE!! Two Antlerless and One Either Sex!!! Applications
will be accepted from 1-5 p.m. on June 26th and from 9 a.m..
– 2 p.m., on June 27th at the Senior Center. The applicants
must be present at the festival at 5p.m., Saturday, June
27th in order to win one of these permits.
