There is always some type of event going on in Newton County but the following is a list of the major events that take place each year.

 

THIRD FRIDAY IN APRIL: Annual Spring Dogwood Tour
$6 per person. Buses leave from the Jasper Square. Bring a sack

THIRD SATURDAY IN APRIL: “Wheels for Meals” Parade
Be in downtown Jasper on Saturday, April 16th at 10AM for this
grand parade. Sponsored by the Newton County Senior Service
Center as a fundraiser for their “Meals on Wheels” program.

FIRST WEEKEND IN MAY:
Kingstons’s annual “Fair on the Square”.
Activities include a parade, lots of music, Arts & Crafts, Children’s

JUNE 24th & 25th: 14th Annual Buffalo River Elk Festival
This major event celebrates Newton County’s title of "Elk Capital
of Arkansas." You will find artists, crafters, and other vendors
showcasing their wares as well as Elk Permits Drawings, contests,
entertainment, fishing derby and other kids activities.

4TH OF JULY: Deer Volunteer Fire Department Celebration
Old fashioned 4th of July event begins at 2PM at the Deer School
grounds, with plenty of food and ice cream, bingo, horseshoe
tournaments, and other activities for all ages. Music most of the
day; then a brilliant fireworks display. Bring a lawn chair!

AUGUST 21 THROUGH AUGUST 27:
Newton County Fair & Rodeo
August 22 through August 29. County Fairgrounds in Jasper.
Carnival, Kid’s Day, truck pull, queen’s contest, parade, horse

SEPTEMBER 1st, 2nd, & 3rd
Join us at Bradley Park for three nights of fantastic Blue Grass
Music. Plenty of Great Food and lots of Fun! Music filled weekend
begins at 6 pm on Thursday and Friday and opens on Saturday at
10 am with fantastic Blue Grass renditions, great food and fun all

2nd SATURDAY IN SEPTEMBER:
Newton County Gospel Sing
You’ll enjoy a great evening of Gospel Singing at Bradley Park.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10th: Second Annual Running of the
Elk 5K Run to Benefit the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
In addition to to the 5K run there will be a pancake Breakfast and

3rd WEEKEND IN SEPTEMBER: Ozark Mountain Artist Tour
The finest artists in Newton County open their studio doors to the
public for 3 days. Our self-guided takes you thru the beautiful
back roads of the Ozarks and showcases the talents of painters,
photographers, jewelers, sculptors, potters and more.

Sept 23rd-25th - 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell
24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell is an endurance rock climbing
competition that pairs partners in an all out sufferfest of
strength, stamina and mental endurance. Teams of two tackle
24 hours of continuous rock climbing at Horseshoe Canyon
Ranch in what has become one of the largest and most coveted
rock climbing competitions in the United States.

OCTOBER 14-16 - OUTDOOR RENDEZVOUS 2011
Join us in Newton County for the second annual weekend of
hiking some of the great trails in the area, outdoor classes on
subjects such as basic survival & winter backpacking and the
challenge of Rock Climbing at Horseshoe Canyon.

4th Annual Spook House

3rd SATURDAY IN OCTOBER: Home Tour
Drive at your leisure through beautiful Newton County and visit
four creative or historic homes through which hostesses conduct
guided, informative tours from noon until 5 pm. Admission is $10.

4th FRIDAY IN OCTOBER: Fall Foliage Tour

4th WEEKEND IN OCTOBER: Color Fest
Join us for outdoor demonstrations of fine art displays by professional
Arkansas artists. Observe their techniques, visit with them,
browse or purchase their works or bring your supplies and join in
the fun. This colorful event is held at the Ponca Elk Education
Center from 10 - 4:30. Friday and Saturday. For more information,

1st THURSDAY IN DECEMBER: Newton County Christmas
Beautiful tree lighting ceremony and fantastic night time parade
on the Jasper Square. Sponsored by the Jasper Kiwanis Club.

BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER EVENTS The National Park Service
hosts a variety of events throughout the year including craft
activities, slide shows and hikes. Check with the visitors centers
or any ranger station for schedules.
