Community Calendar and Events

There is always some type of event going on in Newton County but the following is a list of the major events that take place each year.

 

MARCH 16th THRU 21st:  Community Champion Week supporting the Newton County Senior Activity & Wellness Center “Wheels for Meals” program.  There will be a parade  in downtown Jasper on Friday, March 20th.  Contact the Activity Center for detailed information at 870-446-5531.

THIRD FRIDAY IN APRIL: Annual Spring Dogwood Tour $6 per person. Buses leave from the Jasper Square at 9am and return at 2:30pm. Contact Kindra Dicamillo at 479-284-3150 or Angela Slape at 870-446-6180 for reservations.

SATURDAY APRIL 4th: 2nd Annual Newton County Easter Egg Hunt at Bradley Park.  5 age different age groups from 0-12 years old  will be hunting for 2000 eggs! Sponsored by the City of Jasper, Jasper Kiwanis Club, Anstaff Bank, Bank of Ozarks, Harps and the Newton County Chamber of Commerce  For more info call 446-2633.

FIRST FRIDAY IN MAY: Annual Mount Judea Heritage Day Festival celebrates the past with musical entertainment, Dutch Oven Cook-Off, Handmade crafts & More.  Call Donna Dotson for details 870-434-5474

SECOND SATURDAY IN JUNE: Newton County Fair Horse Show on Saturday, June 14, 2015, begins at 6pm. Hosted by the Newton County Round-Up Club at the Newton County Fair Grounds. For more information contact Lena Villines at 870-743-6482.

JUNE 26th & 27th: 18th Annual Buffalo River Elk Festival celebrates Newton County’s title of "Elk Capital of Arkansas." 4TH OF JULY: Deer Volunteer Fire Department Celebrates an Old fashioned 4th of July at the Deer School. Plenty of food, ice cream, bingo, horseshoe tournaments, lots of  Music & a fireworks display. Call 870-428-5524.

AUGUST  27th thru 29th  Join us at Bradley Park for three nights of fantastic Blue Grass Music. There will be Plenty of Great Food and lots of Fun for the entire family!  For additional information call 870-446-2636.

SEPTEMBER 18th thru 20th (Always the 3rd Weekend):  Ozark Mountain Artist Studio Tour.  This free self-guided tour that showcases the talents of painters, photographers, jewelers, sculptors, potters and more. For printable maps and more information go to www.ozarkmountainartists.com 

SEPTEMBER 24th thru 26th - Two competitions a 12 Hour & a 24 Hour of Horseshoe Hell.  These are an endurance rock climbing competition that pairs partners in an all out sufferfest of strength, stamina and mental endurance at Horseshoe Canyon Ranch. More information is at www.twofourhell.com

THIRD WEEKEND IN OCTOBER: Color Fest in Ponca - Join us for outdoor displays of fine art and demonstrations by professional Arkansas artists. Observe their techniques, browse or purchase their works & join in the fun.  This free colorful event is held at the Ponca Elk Education Center from 10 - 4:30, Friday and Saturday. NOVEMBER 23rd - JANUARY 1st:  Newton County Reindeer Trail   This event allows visitors to drive our scenic highways and backroads during the Christmas season to see  our famous Arkansas elk and deer herds.  For more information visit our website at www.theozarkmountains.com or call 870-446-2455.

BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER EVENTS The National Park Service hosts a variety of events throughout the year including craft activities, slide shows and hikes. Check with the visitors centers or any ranger station for schedules.
